In the beginning was the Word... and the Word was God

If John 1 is true and I am completely convinced it is then Jesus is the living word of God. So the ultimate question is what role does the word of God have in our lives. Can we claim to know God and not know His word? How do we claim to know God have a relationship with Jesus but not read our Bibles?
I have two passions in life the first is the word of God. We can not claim to know God and not know his word. It is not sufficient to say that I once read my Bible. Nor is it acceptable that I read my Bible to check of that from my list of "Christian" obligations. It is overwhelming how many times in scripture God tells is how important his word it. The Word of God must be the means of hearing God and relating to him that we use on a daily basis. Before there was anything else there was the Word.
The question is where does the word of God fit into our lives? What are we doing with the power of God's word that is available. There are lots pastors that will tell you, you need to read your Bible and we will agree with that but how are we incorporating the word of God and experiencing its power in our daily lives.
